July 25, 2011

This is a very well insured cruise…we have over 1,000 Nationwide guests on board this week. Apparently they are all outstanding salesmen and this is their reward this year. Nationwide has bought the cruise for them and their spouses, though they have to pay for any others that come along. Even “Bob”, the actor who does their commercials, is on. You know, the World’s Greatest Salesman. He’s just as funny looking in person as he is on the TV! I think he and “Flo” from Progressive should do a commercial together….

Last night was a karaoke night for me, which I always enjoy. Full house again…but this time I had some great singers!! I talked up my Karaoke Competition, which is tomorrow night, and made them swear to come. I just got off Gangway Duty and had probably 20 people come up and say “Hey, aren’t you the Karaoke guy from last night?” That made me feel good. They all wanted to know when my next hosted karaoke would be. I have a feeling the Competition night is going to be packed, packed, packed! I’m already getting excited!

I have another All Access Tour tomorrow morning, and then basically the whole day off…in Jamaica. I feel compelled to go out tomorrow, but I also have a lot of work to do in the Card Room Locker. I wanted to get off the boat today and get some Haitian Art to hang in my cabin to brighten it up a bit, but I forgot until it was too late. I had a bit of a headache for some reason, so I slept most of the day.

LATER

The day was basically a wash out. My headache and sense of ‘blah’ predominated, until I got to the Rising Tide at night. Then I met a young couple again that I had met a couple days before. Newlyweds….on their Honeymoon. They are both from Rhode Island, and boy, does HE have a Rhode Island accent! He’s a fireman, and both are pretty as a picture. They had told me about their wedding, which was in the Dominican Republic. It was a destination wedding, and apparently it was just awful. Everything went wrong.

Krystal, the new bride, said that the only thing that allowed her to keep it together was the knowledge that they were going to have another reception when they got home. The ceremony was rained on, and rain in the sense of tropical deluge, the DJ spoke no English and messed up the toasts and everything. They were not happy…ironically, their first night here they went to the Oasis of Dreams Aqua Show…and it got rained on and cancelled! They were able to laugh at it though…which I suppose is a good recipe for marital success.

At any rate, I met them again tonight and we chatted whilst the bar rose and fell. I offered them Judges seats for the Karaoke Contest, which they were happy to accept.
The rest of the night was spent trying to get everything together for the All Access Tour in the morning. After getting to bed around 2AM, the next day was coming fast…
